Revolution (here) now!
This exhibition proposal explores how the British hippie movement of the 1960s and 1970s redefined space and community. It examines how values of freedom, justice, and experimentation materialised in radical approaches to inhabiting space, from communal houses to countercultural venues.
Presented through archival photographs, newspaper articles, video interviews, and immersive reconstructions of iconic sites, the exhibition highlights the architectural and spatial typologies that shaped youth ideologies of the time. Together, they capture the spirit of a movement whose ideals continue to resonate with younger generations.
The title, Revolution (here) now!, references the 1960s band Tomorrow and their song Revolution, first played at the UFO Club. It reflects the zeitgeist of the “Swinging Sixties” — a period driven by hope, change, freedom, and radical experimentation.
